KOCHI: Mahatma Gandhi always regretted that he had not improved his handwriting when he was young. Years later, as a barrister in South Africa, he envied the ‘beautiful handwritings of fellow lawyers’. And in the ocean of messages he left for the youth of our country, one was: improve your handwriting.
Handwriting reflects one’s persona and handwriting analysis is an easy way to decipher one’s qualities, say handwriting analysts, many of who refer to handwriting as ‘brain writing’.
“Handwriting is a habit,” says K Unnikrishna Menon,61, based in Thammanam here, who holds a degree from the Dallas-based Handwriting University International. “A good handwriting indicates that the writer has good characteristics,” he said.
Menon says, “No two people’s script is exactly the same. You cannot describe a person based on a single letter.
Your handwriting shows what you are at the time of writing - moods, stress and the state of mind affects your handwriting.” He is quick to point out that good or positive handwriting need not be beautiful, contrary to popular belief.
“Often schoolteachers make the mistake of encouraging certain handwritings as ‘beautiful’, some even give extra marks for it. That is not a right practice,” says Menon.
Indeed, he says, a person with a beautiful handwriting could be an attention-seeker, just as in the case of people who dress gaudily. And in many cases people with an impeccable handwriting turn out to be perfectionists who are quite difficult to live with. “On the other hand, people with shabby (not to be confused with illegible) handwriting tend to be creative in life,” he says.
Basically, handwriting analysis or graphology can decipher the hidden qualities of a person. In the West, he notes, graphology is being widely used to assess people, especially while recruiting to check the candidate’s compatibility with the employer’s requirement.
In India, the ‘science’ is slowly catching on, albeit primarily for forensic purposes.
Graphology can also be used for matchmaking! “Compatibility between two people can be judged by analysing their handwriting. All that is needed is a page of text written by each person. People have come to me to get their ‘compatibility levels’ analysed through their handwriting.” Furthermore, altering faulty handwriting helps improve personality, says Menon, who had initially taken up graphology as a hobby. “Graphotherapy, as it is widely known, is a simple concept: change your handwriting to change your life,” he says.
“It is one of the best personality development courses (unknown to many)!” For details, contact 2349346, 9446349345 or email to unnimenonk@ gmail.com
