KOCHI: Shouvick Mukherjee, vice-president, Yahoo India-Research and Development, inaugurated the two-day all-India seminar on ‘Web Technologies: Emerging Trends and Social Impacts’ organised by Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Kerala section, Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, Cochin chapter, Institution of Engineers India Kochi, local centre and Computer Society of India, Cochin chapter in the city on Monday.

After inaugurating the seminar, Shouvick Mukherjee spoke on web technologies. Anand Parthasarathy, editor, India TechOnline.com, delivered the keynote address. He spoke on ‘Riding the Internet Wave: Harnessing today’s Web Technology Opportunities.’

He spoke about easy ways of creating websites, different free online office tools like Google Docs and ZOHO. “People can create websites even at costs as low as Rs 499. The Yahoo Study for January 2010 revealed that the most searched web terms in India are job, travel, mobile and matrimony,” he said. He referred to the recent tie-ups of companies such as Microsoft & Yahoo and Intel & Nokia to become the supreme power in the online world. Anand Parthasarathy said that in future web-based services would replace the conventional services.  M P Sukumaran Nair, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister, N Krishnan, director, CERT and Balan of C-DAC, also spoke. B Parameswaran, chairman-IETE Cochin chapter and Suresh Narayana, vice-chairman-IEEE Communication Society, were also present. Professor M V Rajesh, honorable secretary of IETE Cochin chapter, Mini Ulanat, regional student coordinator, CSI, T Sreeprakash, programme coordinator, G Viswanathan, vice-president,IEI and chairman,IEI,Kochi local centre, also spoke.
