

KOCHI: Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister T K A Nair inspected the National Highway-47 C on Saturday.
He travelled from Kalamassery to Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal through the new road, where construction of the eleven bridges has been completed.
T K A Nair was accompanied by chairman fo the National Highways Authority of India Brajeshwar Singh, Cochin Port Trust chairman N Ramachandran, Principal Secretary (PWD) Tom Jose and District Collector M Beena.
He has also visited Vallarpadam ICTT, where the first set of cranes has arrived and the LNG terminal construction site at Puthuvypeen.
The National Highway connectivity project will have roads and bridges with a route length of 17.2 km from Kalamassery to Vallarpadam (NH-47C). The project is executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the project in April 2007 with an estimated cost of Rs 557 crore, which was later revised to Rs 872 crore.
The contract, for the construction of roads and bridges, was awarded in May 2007. The two lane connectivity is scheduled for commissioning in June 2010. The progress in the construction of the two lane connectivity is 86 percentage as on April 30, 2010.
