KOCHI: Kathrikkadavu represented by Leelamma John will be in the general category in the coming elections. Councillor of the area, Leelamma John, said that the division is plagued by waterlogging problems. “Many roads and drains were raised to prevent waterlogging. The side walls of Perandoor Canal was also raised. However, this is not enough to contain the waterlogging in the area. The work of a ` 50-lakh JNNURM project for building a big drainage from Arangath Road to Pernadoor Canal through Ling Road with culverts is already on. This will eventually reduce waterlogging in the area.”
The councillor said, “The problem of potable water shortage in the division has been totally solved. A ` 7-lakh project was carried out with MLA fund whereby a new water connection was given from the pipeline at Karanakodam to Vadhyar Road. This and the replacement of pipes in various areas of the division solved the water shortage problem.”
She said that slum development was carried out at Ambedkar Colony with ` 18 lakh from KSUDP fund. Sixty-eight houses were allotted under BSUP in the division. Of this 22 were given additional help from St Francis church,
Kathrikadavu.
Leelamma said that various roads in the division were all tarred using funds like People’s Plan fund, General fund and Dominic Presentation MLA’s fund. She agrees that all these roads are bad now. However, she said that the Kaloor-Kathrikadavu road which was tarred by GCDA after a 19-day relay strike by the public is still in good shape.
With Perandoor thodu, Seena thodu and Karanakodam thodu flowing through the division, waterlogging is the biggest problem for residents of Kathrikadavu division. As everywhere else in the city, potholes on roads also trouble the residents here.
Kathrikadavu will be division no. 64 in the coming elections.
