CK Manisankar bids farewell to Kochi Corporation

KOCHI,: Ending his 22-year-long association with the civic body, the outgoing Deputy Mayor C K Manisankar on Thursday bid adieu to the Kochi Corporation with the council term coming to a close after declaration of elections to the local bodies in the state.

Manisankar began his political career as a student leader while studying at Tripunithura Sanskrit High School.

Later, he became the district secretary of the DYFI. He was first elected to the Kochi Corporation in 1988. Manisankar was nominated as chairman of the Works Standing Committee during 1995-2000 and as head of the Town Planning Standing Committee from 2000 to 2005.

Manisankar’s ascension to the post of Deputy Mayor in 2005 was vital in fetching many key projects to the city. He succeeded in getting a slew of benefits to the city, including clearance from the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for a drinking water project at a cost of Rs 201 crore at Maradu.

Once completed, the plant will go a long way in meeting the drinking water requirements of the entire West Kochi area, which is reeling under acute shortage of potable water.

The setting up of the solid Waste Treatment Plant at Brahmapuram i s yet another achievement of the Council.

The city roads got a facelift and the developmental activities which were lying in cold storage were revived.

“The tenure was a valuable learning experience for me. I would like to express my whole hearted gratitude to Kochiites for their support,” Manisankar said. Prior to the elections, Manisankar had made it clear that he was not going to contest in the local body elections anymore.
