KOCHI: The sixth anniversary of Rhima De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Kaithevelli, Kannamaly, was celebrated at the Rhima Activity centre on Sunday.
Justice K Sukumaran, who was the chief guest at the public function, appreciated the efforts of the centre in helping the needy overcome drug and alcohol addiction. The anniversary function was presided over by C Prasad, president of the Rhima Trust. A public function and a family get-together of the patients treated at the centre were also held.
The patients and their families shared their experiences on their road to recovery. Appreciation awards for patients abstaining from alcohol and drugs for periods of over one year were distributed.
The centre, being run as a charitable institution by the Indian Medical Association Cochin West and the Rotary Club of Cochin Harbour, has become a beacon of hope to those addicted to alcohol and drugs. Started six years ago, the centre, which is the only one catering to the citizens of Kochi west, has treated over 1,370 patients and has a commendable rate of success .
Dr Sushil Daniel, president - elect, IMA Cochin West, Nalini Varma, president, Rotary Club of Cochin Harbour and Dr Shaji S were present.
Blaze Jose presented a report on the activities of the Trust. Mohandas proposed a vote of thanks.
