KOCHI: Your salary and educational qualification need not necessarily match always. With just a pass in class XII, you can earn Rs 1 lakh and maybe more per month. That is what the job of an air hostess or flight attendant offers you.
With the aviation industry in the country growing at an annual growth rate of more than 20 percent, domestic and international airlines are on the way to expansion. Companies have started adding more flights to their fleets and have increased services. This has created a lot of opportunities for those who aspire for the job of cabin crew.
In the past, few candidates from Kerala qualified for the jobs. But the scenario has changed now, said Anil Sreenivasan, regional manager, Jet Airways.
Candidates from Kochi are providing tight competition to aspirants from other cities. Jet Airways recruited nine persons from Kochi last month and is going to conduct another interview soon, said Anil said.
With the boom in the industry, institutes which provide training for the careers have also come up. As per the statistics available with the Frankfinn Institute Air Hostess Training, one of the leading institutes, around 100 of their students were recruited by major airlines in the last fiscal from Kerala alone.
A study conducted by the Air Transport Association (IATA) indicates that the aviation industry is expecting a boom in 2012-13. India and China will be the main beneficiaries. The airlines will be prompted to increase their services and will have to hire more people as cabin crew, said Air India authorities.
The profession offers excellent work atmosphere and good remuneration. A cabin crew trainee of Air India Express gets a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 in the beginning. One can grow up to become in-flight supervisor. As they become senior, some shift to the administrative side and have the chance to grow as even senior managers, they said.
