KOCHI: A week after the Department of Telecommunications launched Mobile Number Portability (MNP) across the country, mobile service providers in Kerala have been receiving heavy response from subscribers to migrate from one network to another.

Though the final figures are not available, highly placed sources said Idea and Vodafone lead in the market rush.

Officials with Vodafone said it has been getting heavy response from mobile users of other networks for migration to Vodafone. “The response has been very good so far. We have been waiting for MNP to be implemented,” they said. However, they refused to divulge the number of applications that they receive a day.

“We have been getting about 300 to 400 applications a day for migration. Subscribers from all networks are among those who have come up with requests. There are requests for migration to Tata Indicom and Tata Docomo, however a majority opt for Docomo,” sources in the Tata Tele services said.

According to reports, BSNL has been maintaining a steady rate of growth even after the MNP came to effect. Sources said BSNL received over 2,000 applications each for migration from BSNL network and migration to the BSNL network.  “According to statistics available, BSNL received about 2,300 applications for migration to its network from subscribers of other operators. However, almost a similar number of requests are there for migration to other networks also,” they said.

Mobile service providers are  certainly competing with each other to cash in on maximum subscribers from other networks.
