With the Radha Lakshmi Vilasam (RLV) College of Music and Fine Arts at Tripunithura set to host the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, the college authorities are busy with the preparatory works.

According to the authorities, the college will host a seven-day long camp of  the painting, sculpture exhibition and traditional art performances as part of biennale.

“As part of the preparations, the art gallery of the college is being  renovated. We have already received adequate funds from the state government  and the renovation work is in progress. We will complete the work soon,” said principal of the RLV College M Balasubramaniam.

The principal added that after completing the renovation works, the  paintings and sculptures of the students will be exhibited at the art gallery.

Besides, the second floor will be a venue to showcase the traditional art performances of the students. “We have not prepared the list of traditional  art performances. Students, including former students, of the RLV will  perform traditional art forms at the venue all along the week. This venue will be cultural treat for the visitors,” he said. Meanwhile, students are equally excited that their college is “hosting such  a huge event that helps them showcase their talent”. “Some students have already got opportunities to exhibit their sculptures and paintings at the main venue of the biennale. We expect more people will get the chance to be a part of the biennale with the college hosting the event in January,” said Rahul, a student of the RLV.

However, the principal expressed disappointment that the college lacked a cultural complex. “Though the government announced a cultural complex in the college to host various cultural programmes, nothing has been done yet in this regard. A  cultural complex should immediately be built in the college,” he said.
