The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) will organise a stage show to celebrate the hundred years of Indian cinema.
AMMA president Innocent announced the decision after the general body meeting here on Sunday. He said that all the artists who are taking part in the show will take a two-week break from shooting to prepare for the event that will be held in the second week of April, 2013.
“The date of the show will be finalised later. The fund raised from the show will be used for various welfare schemes under AMMA,” he said.
Innocent said that the key of the new house constructed by AMMA for veteran actor Shanthakumari will be handed over to her within two weeks. Regarding taking back actor Thilakan, who was banned from AMMA, Innocent said that the association will consider the issue if Thilakan is ready to submit a membership application.
Earlier, all the candidates of the official panel won the executive committee elections. The elections were conducted, after actor Raveendran who was not in the official panel, filed a nomination. However, Raveendran could bag only 143 votes. Actor Devan got highest number of votes (216), while Suraj Venjaramoodu got the least number of votes among the elected members (153). The general body meeting also decided to increase the membership fee to ` 5,000 from the present fee of ` 3,000.
The general body also approved the list of new office-bearers of the association. Last week, Innocent and Mohanlal were re-elected as president and general secretary, respectively. Idavela Babu was chosen as the secretary while KB Ganesh Kumar and Dileep were elected vice-presidents and Kunchako Boban the treasurer. The new committee will take charge on July 1.
