The state government has issued a circular permitting the government law officers at the Kerala High Court to exhibit designation boards on the vehicles used by them.

The Transport Department issued the order based on a request by the government law officers of the Kerala High Court, including Special Government Pleaders, Senior Government Pleaders and Government Pleaders. The officers had cited that it was difficult for them to reach the court on time owing to the heavy traffic congestion.

“The situation has been worsened by the rash and disorderly plying of public transport,  giving scant regard to private vehicles, other than the vehicles that display name boards. During traffic regulation, vehicles displaying designation boards alone are permitted to pass through the normal routes. The delay in reaching the destination can be avoided, if the Government Pleaders in the court are properly identified by the traffic police,”  the representation submitted by Additional Advocate-General P C Iype to Minister Aryadan Muhammed pointed out.

By exhibiting designation boards, unpleasant experiences on the road can be avoided, he submitted.

The circular dated November 12 imposed a condition that the board indicating the designation, both at the front and rear of the vehicle, should be painted in red colour with the letters in white. The height of the letter should be 60 mm and thickness 8 mm. The board must be removed or suitably covered if the legal officers are not in the vehicle, it said.

The government order was also sent to the Registrar General of the High Court, State Police Chief and the Transport Commissioner.
