‘Akam’ adjudged best short film

Tamil short films bagged the majority of awards at the Lohitadas National Short Film Festival which concluded on Sunday at the Maharajas College Auditorium.  ‘Akam’, directed by Guhan, bagged the best film award, while Tamil short films ‘Assenting@ 60’ and ‘Asai Kalathu Odai Vitte’ shared the award for second best film.

 The only Malayalam film screened in this section was ‘Malo’ directed by Kuriakose Kudassery.  The best three campus films were also Tamil, ‘The Knot’, ‘Black Forest’ and ‘Thammil’.  Meera Nair was adjudged the best actor for her role in the Malayalam campus film ‘Penkutty’, while Chethan Jayalal’s role in ‘Last Blue Drop’ won him the best actor award.

 The award for the best cinematographer went to actor Salim Kumar’s film ‘Parethante Paribhavangal’. The jury headed by Marathi filmmaker Umesh Vinayak Kulakarni chose Praveenkumar as the best director for ‘Asai Kalathu Odai Vitte’.

 ‘Nan Oru Thai’, ‘Kunhedathi’ and ‘Randu’ received the jury’s special mention. The award for the best actors, film, director and camera, comprises a statuette instituted in memory of director Lohitadas and a purse of `1 lakh each.

 The three-day national short film festival was jointly organised by Maharaja’s Youth Theatre, alumni of Maharaja’s College and the Information and Public Relations Department.

 Preparatory meeting

A meeting will be convened at Ernakulam Children’s park at 5 pm on Monday to discuss the preparation of the international film festival which will be held here in December. The meeting will be chaired by District Collector P I Shiek Pareeth.  Representatives of various cultural organisations and those who are interested can participate.
