Supplyco’s first mall to come up at Piravom

The Kerala Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) and the Piravom grama panchayat will jointly construct a mall at Piravom.

This will be the first mall of the Supplyco in the state and it will be constructed on a 40-cent plot where the Piravom Town Hall and the grama panchayat office are located currently.

According to Piravom grama panchayat president Sabu K Jacob, the mall will be constructed with the assistance of Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob.

“The Civil Supplies Department has allocated a fund of `8 crore for the project. We will construct a five- storeyed building having 50,000-sq ft space. Like other malls and hypermarkets, there will be a multiplex theatre on the top floor,” Sabu K Jacob said.

The ground floor will have a warehouse and a parking area. The first and second floors willA be allotted for the Supplyco market.

The Piravom grama panchayat office will function on the third floor. The fourth floor will be allotted for multiplex theatres. The work on the new mall will start after the panchayat office is moved to the mini civil station by June. The work is expected to be completed within a year.

“The design and other paper works for the mall have almost been completed. We are now waiting for the nod of the District Panchayat Committee meeting to shift the current panchayat office to the mini civil station. Once the office is shifted, the work will start immediately. Piravom is turning out to be a township with people from other parts of the district travelling through here on a regular basis. The mall would attract more people to the place,” Sabu K Jacob said.
