Senior IPS officer Alexander Jacob was on Friday shunted out from the post of DGP (Prisons), a day after his remarks to media allegedly justifying the accused in the RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan murder case. Speaking to reporters here, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that ADGP (Vigilance ) T P Sen Kumar, who is the seniormost official in line, has been given charge of the DGP (Prisons) and  Jacob has not been given any post yet.

The action against Jacob comes hours after he expressed regrets in writing over his controversial remarks. Thiruvanchoor refused to comment whether the letter was satisfactory or any further action would be initiated against Jacob in the wake of his remarks.

The Home Minister abstained from blaming the suspended jail official for his press meet on Thursday that justified among other things the meeting of P Mohanan, one of the accused in the TP Case, with his wife K K Lathika MLA in a restaurant. “As per his explanation, Jacob was forced to conduct a press meet following a extreme pressure from the mediapersons,” Thiruvanchoor said.

He said Sankar Reddy, ADGP South Zone, will conduct an inquiry into the allegation that TP case accused had used mobile phones in jail. He added that the jails in the state are lodging prisoners beyond their capacity and the present staff strength was too less.
