Brothers on a mission

Marathon for a cause is what these youngsters had in mind when Rency and his brother Rocin, two lads from the capital city along with their friends Gaurav and Nagaraj embarked on their ambitious marathon from Bangalore to Chennai on Saturday.

Rency’s sports adventure company Live 360 degree is sponsoring the event in an attempt to create awareness on the importance of planting trees on highways, roadsides, footpaths etc; creating an awareness to control obesity among youth and youth fitness.

Rency says: “For a pedestrian it is almost impossible to walk on these roads as there is absolutely no shade, one could almost faint of dehydration especially in this hot and sultry climate. Even for those travelling in AC cars the going wouldn’t be easy with absolutely no trees  around.”

Pursuing his aerospace engineering course and an enthusiastic paraglider and a national-level rock climber, adventure is not something that is new to Rocin. Three days into the event, he says: “It was much tougher than we anticipated. Considering it is the first time we are taking up a long-distance run it was tough with the hot sun. This is exactly what we wanted to show our people, initially we had planned to run through the entire day, but the heat is making it impossible, added to the fact that there is absolutely no shade to take rest. So now we run from early morning till noon and from evening till late into the night when the sun is down.” The gang is all set to reach Chennai on the 8th of this month.

Asked if these brothers had no plans for the state, Rency owner of Live 360 degree says: “Tying up with the State Government Live 360 degree is planning for a wide range of activities for the adventure sports enthusiasts in the state. Apart from arranging trekking to Agasthyamalai we also have plans to start water sports in Alappuzha. Talks are underway with the government,”says Rency.
