With the opening of the Salem Rajan approach road and A L Jacob railway over bridge (ROB), traffic police have requested that the public use the new route for reducing traffic congestion at Pallimukhu and Ernakulam South area.
In the press release, Baby Vinod, assistant commissioner, Traffic West, said that people can save more than two km from Rajaji Junction to Frooty junction, if they were to use the new ROB. Besides, there are more traffic signals at the MG Road-Pallimuku-SA Road compared to the new route. Since transport buses and heavy vehicles are not permitted in the road, it would be safer for smaller vehicles.
In the wake of the upcoming construction activities for the Kochi Metro Project, this route would be better for people who use private vehicles to commute to their workplaces.
Police officials informed that vehicles coming from MG Road can take a deviation to Rajaji road-Salim Rajan approach road-A L Jacob ROB to reach Gandhi Nagar north junction. Vehicles plying toward Kaloor side can directly enter KK road. Vehicles commuting to Vytilla have to take a deviation to Gandhi Nagar road to reach Lions junction and enter K K road through Kavalakkal junction.
Commuters can reach Vytilla either by taking the SA road from Frooty Junction or via Subash Chandra Bose road.
