The Ernakulam North Police on Thursday produced the four arrested in a sex racket in the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. The four were arrested from a residence on George Eden Road, near Deshabhimani Junction the other day. The arrested were identified as Joseph (50) of Manimala Road in Edappally, Sijo Joseph (29) of Pala, Reshmi alias Raji (27), wife of Sajeev of Tripunithura and Sunny Joseph (46) of Pala. The police also seized `30,000 from Joseph and `7,000 from Reshmi. According to the police, Joseph was running a brothel in a house under the pretext of running an advertising agency. “Joseph allegedly claimed himself to be the managing director of the agency and Reshmi as his employee. Sijo Joseph was found in a comprising position with Reshmi when we raided the house. Sunny Joseph was a customer and was waiting for his turn in the living room of the house,” said a police officer. Police also said that Joseph was allegedly the middleman who had been running the brothel for a while. The police also said the gang had rented the house a few months ago. “The place was a beehive of activities with several people often visiting it. We are taking the details of the customers. They will be arrested shortly,” the police said. Meanwhile, Ernakulam North Circle Inspector Sabhu requested the people to inform them if they noticed any illegal activities in the city. “We have arrested the four based on the information received from the public. We will not allow any such activities and stringent action will be taken against them,” Sabhu said. The North police said people should be more careful when they rent out their houses. “Preferably, the house owner should have conducted an inquiry about the details of the tenant before renting out the residence. Now, people involved in sex rackets are opt for residences for the smooth conduct of immoral activities. The owner should inspect the residences,” police said.
