The Kochi Film Society will screen two award-winning documentaries as part of their monthly programme on Saturday at Children’s Park Theatre on Saturday.

The documentary ‘Children of the Pyre’ directed by Rajesh S Jala will be screened at 6:00 pm.

The documentary which has won many awards and titled at national and international-level, including the Montreal World Film festival and the IFFLA, USA.

The documentary depicts the tale of seven children who earn their daily  bread cremating the bodies of the dead at Manikarnika, one of the busiest cremation grounds in India.

The story narrates how these kids fight every single day to find food for their families.

Alms For a Blind Horse, a movie by Gurvinder Singh, will also be screened the same day. It tells the story of a poor Dalit family in a village in Punjab. The story takes a turn when the family is woken up in the middle of the night to the news of the demolition of a house of one of their community members. This film has been awarded many prestigious titles like the Golden peacock award and the Black Pearl Trophy. Gurvinder Singh has also won The Best Director In the National Film Awards, India 2012.
