KOCHI: Balyakalasakhi, the screen adaptation of Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s most celebrated novel of the same name, has bagged two awards in the recently concluded fourth International Film Festival of Kashmir (IFFK), 2014.
Mammootty who essayed the roles of both the hero, Majeed, and his father in the film, was bestowed with the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award. The movie, directed by Pramod Payyannur, won two special awards for script and direction.
Jordanian Feature film When Monaliza Smiled by Fadi George Haddad has been chosen as the Best Feature Film, while Turkish Film Spring is Rebellious by Selma Koksal came Second in the category.
Led by Dr Kaushik Bhaumik, associate professor at the School of Art and Aesthetic, Jawaharlal Nehru University, the jury included writer and filmmaker Manju Kak and theatre actor and director M K Raina.
Around 40 movies were screened in the festival organised by Experimental Moving Images and Theatre Association (XMITA) in Association with the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department.
The films in 10 foreign languages, belonging to 17 countries were screened.
