A wall magazine, torn by intolerant critics among the student community at the Government Law College, Kozhikode, led to the creation of an online magazine by the same group, the new one being immune to any ‘physical attack.’
GLC Reporter was launched in 2011 as a wall magazine as an initiative of the Clinical Justice Education Organisation (CliJEO).
Planned as a monthly, the release of the continuous editions was hit due to the indefinite delay in the conduct of examinations.
The new team of students, led by its current chief editor Ajeesh Mohan, a fifth semester student of the five-year batch, decided to give the magazine a new lease of life and brought out an all-new online magazine on International Women’s Day.
With layout by Abdulla Karuthedan, the cover page is beautifully designed in yellow, with this year’s theme of Women’s Day: Equality for Women is Progress for All. The contents include articles on current issues and intervention of the judiciary in each of these issues.
GLC Reporter came out in 2011 as an initiative of Ajith S, who is an advocate in the High Court now and Roopak V, who is doing his master’s at SAARC University, New Delhi. Roopak was the first chief editor. During a period ranging from 2011 to 2013, Deepthi Puthiyaveettil was the chief editor.
The magazine team invites articles from law students from across the nation, which will be screened by the GLC editorial board.
“When the university delayed examinations indefinitely, the students were not in a position to write or take part in any co-curricular activities. Now that the students are contributing after the initial hesitation, we have published an article by an LLM student from Kolkata. From the earlier ‘fun’ space online, where it had been spreading as a blog, GLC Reporter has grown to a full-fledged online magazine, with the support of our teachers,” says Ajeesh.
Principal Lovely Poulose is the chief patron of the magazine. The college says the magazine will be a monthly and they are planning to give a printed copy of it to the library.
If funds are ready, each class will get a copy, they say.
