KOCHI : A group of lawyers, practicing at the Kerala High Court, wanted to fill their lives with music and harmony. Thus, in 2004, they formed a music band, ‘Raganeethi’, headed by K.T. Shyam Kumar, who plays the keyboard. The other members include George Johnson (Guitar), Anand Parathara (Bass Guitar), Harish R Menon (Percussion and Mridangam), Sunil Duth (Tabla) and John Dydimos (Drums). It is the first-ever lawyers’ band, probably in India, and became part of the Kerala High Court Advocates Association (KHCAA).
‘Raganeethi’ has performed at various functions of the High Court organised by the KHCAA as well as temples like the Guruvayoor temple and Ernakulam Siva Temple.
‘Raganeethi’ is celebrating its 10th anniversary on October 21, at 6.30 p.m., with a gala musical show at the Kerala Fine Arts Hall, Kochi. Prominent playback singers, Vijay Yesudas and Sithara Krishnakumar, are performing with the band. The programme will be inaugurated by the Honourable Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan. The chief guest is M.K. Muneer, Minister for Panchayats and Social Justice.
