KOCHI: The Ernakulam District Committee of the Kerala Sastra  Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) will launch a signature campaign on Tuesday,  demanding a law against exploitation in the name of superstition, one similar to the ‘anti-black magic and superstition ordinance’.

Kerala University former Vice-chancellor Dr B Iqbal will inaugurate a people’s convention  being organised as part of the drive. “The achievements of Kerala in various fields are being overshadowed by the prevalence superstition in the State.

“The death of two women recently, after being tortured by black magicians is shocking. The murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar in Maharashtra is a cause of concern for Kerala too,” said a statement released by the KSSP.

The meeting will be presided over by critic M K Sanu. Kavumbayi Balakrishnan will lead a discussion on the subject. Hibi Eden MLA will be the chief guest.

The campaign will be inaugurated by P Rajeeve MP and ex-MP Sebastian Paul, which will  run till October 15. Poet S Ramesan, T B Mini and Sherin Varghese will also participate in the programme. As part of the campaign, an all-Kerala science festival will be held from November 7 until February-end, 2015.
