Poet Sachidanandan Puzhankara’s fourth anthology of poems was released in a small but warm function at Changampuzha Park on Sunday. Despite the absence of a big publication house or a celebrity, poem lovers from all parts of the state flocked to Changampuzha Park at Edappally to attend the book release.
Folk singer Ramesh Karinthalakoottam released the book, titled ‘Pachavellam’, by handing it over to poet Sudha Ramachandran. About 200 people attended the meet to buy the new words of their beloved poet, who is a well known figure among bloggers and social networking sites.
“We are here because we love Sachidanandan Puzhakara. He is a self-made poet who has always been avoided by the intellectual world which seems to be keen to celebrate poets without a style and stuff. Perhaps consequently, his poems revolve around the small surroundings of the ordinary. But he breathes life into such small things and uses it as a tool to tell his extraordinary vision on life. Such vigilant poets should not be left unheard,” said poet and journalist Kuzhur Wilson, who was also one of the organiser for the function.
Sachidanandan Puzhakara, who hails from Chalakkudy, walked a long, weary walk to the alluring world of published poets. He worked as a KSRTC officer for the most part of his life, a job which failed to satisfy him. When he learned that he can no more take leaves from the office to relish in the world of reading and writing, he quit.
“I always make an an effort to dilute life and its surroundings to in his poems. My concerns often revolve around ecology and humanity and my poems reflect the same. This book for example is a collection of poems about the scarcity we would have to face in terms of drinking water,” said Sachidanandan. ‘Pachvelam’ is published by ‘Saikatham’ books.
