KOCHI: As the first Malayalam film to be released in the prestigious slot of ‘PVR Director’s Rare’, the national award winning film Perariyathavar(Names Unknown) directed by Dr Biju reached theatres on Friday, across seven cities in the country including Kochi.

PVR Director’s Rare is the limited release arm of PVR Group and works as a spring board for the theatrical release of critically acclaimed cinema and niche content from across the world. Along with PVR Screens in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad, two multiplexes in the city PVR Lulu and  Oberon Cinemax will also screen the film from Friday.

‘Perariyathavar’ revolves around a widowed man from the marginalized society working as temporary sweeper and his son. Along with his friend he collects garbage from the city streets in a vehicle and dumps it at a village. The film narrates how the father-son duo find themselves among the nameless, faceless people while shuttling between the busy city which wants to be tidy and village which receives the garbage.Suraj Venjarammood had bagged the best actor award for his brilliant performance as the protagonist at the 61st National Film awards.  The movie was adjudged the best film in the category of environment/ conservation/ preservation.  The 111 minute film had its  world premiere at the 38th Montreal World Film Festival in Canada in the section ‘Focus on World Cinema’, last year.

According to Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, JMD, PVR who expressed  his happiness in giving a national platform to Dr Biju’s work of art which rightfully garnered two National Awards,”PVR Director’s Rare endeavour is to always showcase such brilliant cinema to a wider audience and make people aware of the excellent work that’s being done at the regional level.”

There will be three  shows at PVR Lulu at 9.45 am, 2.30 am 7.45 pm and two shows at Oberon Cinemax at 11 am and 9.45 pm.
