Gangster Gets 3-year Jail in Assault Case

KOCHI: The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court on Tuesday ordered three years of rigorous imprisonment to Marad Aneesh, the leader of the quotation gang who was found guilty in a case related to the  attack on another gang leader Bhai Nazeer. E M Muhammad Ebrahim, Judge, Additional Sessions Court announced the verdict of the case.

Marad Aneesh was found guilty of the offence under various sections of the Explosives Act and the Indian Penal Code. Though the court ordered rigorous imprisonment for three years, Marad Aneesh has already completed two- and-a-half years in jail during the trial period.

Considering this, he would only have to remain in jail for six months in the case. Premson Paul Manjumattam appeared for the prosecution.

Marad Aneesh was produced before the court amidst high security. The armed police accompanied him to the court and the police in mufthi were also deployed.

It was on January 2007 that a six-member-gang under Marad Aneesh attacked Bhai Nazeer as part of the gang rivalry. Sinoj, one of the gangsters, was later murdered in an encounter with the police in Tamil Nadu.

During the trial of the case, Bhai Nazeer failed to identify others in the gang except Marad Aneesh. It was during the trial of the case that the members of both gangs clashed at the court verandah last year.

Following this the trial of the case was stopped for several months.

The gangs led by Bhai Nazeer and Marad Aneesh had engaged in frequent clashes and several cases were registered at different police stations in the city. Marad Aneesh is currently lodged in a jail in Tamil Nadu in connection with a criminal case registered there.
