

KOCHI: Vaneekalebaram Library, Chengamanad together with Edu Mithra Intellectual Services Pvt Ltd celebrated ‘Pi Approximation Day’ at the library.
‘Pi Approximation Day’ is observed on July 22 worldwide (22/7 in the day/month date format), since the fraction 22/7 is a common approximation of Pi, which is accurate to two decimal places and dates from Archimedes.
The event was organised so as to attract the children towards mathematics and also enhance their learning skills in the subject. M R Surendran, secretary of Ernakulam District Library Council, inaugurated the event and M Muraleedharan conducted the workshop ‘Fun with Pi’.The workshop was followed by a Pi writing competition, in which students were asked to write the value of Pi with maximum value of decimal places beyond the generally used ‘3.14’. More than one hundred students from various schools took part in the workshop and ‘Pi’ writing competition.
Asif Abdul Kareem of SNDP HSS Palissery and Veni I V of Govt HSS Chengamanad shared the first prize. The winners were awarded cash prize. Saneesh C K, managing director, Edu Mithra Intellectual Services Pvt Ltd, A S Jayakumar, president, Sreedevi Ashok Kumar, secretary, Vaneekalebaram Library, Chengamanad attended the event and interacted with the students.
