KOCHI:The State Government has given in-principle sanction for implementation of 21 road projects, including the Pulleppady-Thammanam-Chakkaraparambu road (NH bypass), Vyttila flyover and Kundannoor flyover, at an estimated cost of Rs 3771.47 crore.
The mega road projects, which were envisaged following the budgetary proposal to implement one new project in every district for accelerating infrastructure development, will be executed through the Kerala Road Fund Board.
The fund required for implementation of the projects will be raised from the 50 per cent share of the additional sales tax collected at the rate of Rs 1/per litre of petrol/diesel sold in the State. The 50 per cent share is estimated to be Rs 200 crore per annum.
The cost of the Pulleppady-Thammanam-Chakkaraparambu project is Rs 300 crore, including land acquisition.
The cost of the Vyttila flyover project is Rs 90 crore, while the cost of the Kundannoor flyover is pegged at Rs 85 crore.
Some of the other projects in the approved list are the Cherthala-Vechoor-Kumarakom-Kodimatha Chira KK Road; phase-I of the Kodimatha-Manarcaud bypass road (Rs 801 crore); Hill Highway or the Cherupuzha-Payyavoor-Ulickal-Vallithodu Road (Rs 314 crore); Kuruthikalam-Velliyamattom-Thodupuzha-Njarukutty-Vannappuram-Cheruthony Road (Rs 119 crore); Palakkad link bypasses (Rs 25.30 crore) and ‘four-laning’ of the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu Road (Rs 412 crore).
The government said that land acquisition required for the road projects would be completed through negotiated purchase.
