KOCHI: “First posting news! Will be heading to Ernakulam (Rural) as Assistant Superintendent of Police- ASP(Under Training). Not to be confused with Ernakulam city (Kochi). Lol. Peace”
Merin Joseph, IPS, this name may be familiar to all the netizens who are abreast of all the web happenings. This attractive police officer’s picture had gone viral in all social medias thanks to her very good looks. However, she attracted attention in the web not for her good looks but for a fake post regarding her posting in Kochi as the assistant commissioner of police. But Merin rejected the Facebook post as a fake one. However, in twist of fate she got appointed as assistant superintendent of police(Trainee), Aluva.
In an interview with the ‘City Express’ on the eve of International Women’s Day, this young officer, who is a native of Ranni in Pathanamthitta and was born and brought up in New Delhi, shares her views about women in the law and order department.
“Not only in police department but also in other field the gender imbalance is evident. So, my aim is to bring about a balance in the gender squeeze as much as I can. In fact, gender bias is a major issue and I will try my best to make some difference for the women in the working sector. I will also work to provide succour and justice to the women who are at the receiving end of the brutality in the society,” Merin said.
When asked about the social media goof up, she termed the ‘fake’ posting as ‘irresponsible’. “It was a needless act from someone who posted on Facebook that I was posted as an assistant commissioner of police in Kochi. I believe a lot of comments and responses have came from a section of the media too.
However, I have clarified and posted the actual news about my posting. Moreover,I am overwhelmed by the response that I get in the social media. I will never let down the public and will definitely live-up to their expectations,” she said.
She also found time to advise the young generation to choose IPS as a career option as it will give them an influential position that will enable them to change and uplift the society. It is a great platform and will give them a lot of exposure in dealing with the common man and doing things in an effective manner.
After eleven months of hectic training in Hyderabad, she is currently undergoing training in Aluva.
