Mango Fest 2015, Contests from Friday

KOCHI: Mango Fest 2015, an exhibition of mangoes from different parts of the globe, organised by West Kochi Cultural Society,  will be held at JN International Stadium, Kaloor, from May 22 to 31.

It will be inaugurated by GCDA Chairman N Venugopal on Friday and open from 2 pm to 9 pm on working days and from 11 am onwards on Saturdays and Sundays.

The competitions will be held on May 24 evening.

Ninety-nine varieties of mangoes, including Malgova, Chakkarakutti, Alphonsa and foreign ones such as Al Badri, Telur Masin, Al Suhana will be on display.

Food fest, auto expo, distribution of mango saplings are the other highlights. Competitions like mango eating, juice drinking and mango delicacy preparation will also be conducted. Mango juice will be served to all who visit the exhibition ground.

“The mangoes are ripened in a natural way and free from chemicals. The fruit will be available at a rate lower than that in the open market,” said Biju Abraham, MD of Star Event Makers.

The fest is being conducted for the third consecutive year in the city.

Shemeer Valavath, MD Star Entertainment, said the Malaysian Dwarf coconut palms, consumer stores and flower marts are other attractions. Cultural shows will also be held.
