KOCHI: Another well-known DJ was arrested in the city on Tuesday, in connection with the seizure of drugs from Russian DJ Psykovsky, alias Vasily Markelov, at a party at hotel Le Meridian on Saturday.
The arrested person, Ponekkara-native Mithun C Vilas, alias Kokaachi, 27, has been arraigned as the fifth accused in the case. The DJ party at Hotel Le Meridian was organised by Mithun.
On Tuesday, a police team lead by Circle Inspector Siby Tom and Special Branch sub-inspector Ananathalal conducted raid at Mithun’s residence and seized banned narcotic substances, including hashish and bupropion, as well as boxes and packets in which LSD and cocaine were suspected to have been stored.
“We have recovered around 40 gm of hashish, vaporisers and other equipment used for consuming drugs from Mithun’s residence. Also, two bupropion ampoules were seized from his car.
“We suspect that cocaine and LSD were consumed by him, and sold to others. Later, he was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate, and was remanded. We will file a petition seeking custody of the accused for five days,” Siby Tom said.
The police had arrested seven persons, including Psykovsky, for posses-sing banned narcotic substances.
However, they were released on bail as the quantity of the drugs was not sufficient to detain them. As possessing even a single ampoule of bupropion is a non-bailable offence, Mithun was not granted bail. The police have charged cases against him, under various Sections of the IPC and the the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Initially, the seized narcotic substances were checked using drug testing kit. Later, the samples were sent to the Regional Chemical Laboratory at Kakkanad.
“We had clear information that Muthun was using and selling drugs. But, we could not arrest him at the party as he was not possessing or using it on that day. When the persons arrested at the party venue were questioned, they said it was Mithun who supplied the drugs,” Siby Tom said.
It was Mithun who invited Psykovsky to perform in Kochi. Mithun is a regular DJ performer in Kochi and other cities in the country. He has also acted in a number of Malayalam movies.
“He had been selling drugs to customers from across the state, including persons associated with the film industry,” the police added.
