KOCHI: If the authorities do not initiate steps to curb the stray dog menace in the State, the people would be forced to take law into their own hands, said industrialist Kochouseph Chittilappilly.
He was speaking during the 24-hour token hunger strike launched by the Stray Dog Free Movement here on Sunday, demanding measures to make the State stray-dog free.
“The BJP-led government at the Centre has been taking action against those who kill ‘dangerous’ stray dogs. The stance adopted by Union Minister and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi in this regard is objectionable. Her love for animals is fake,” alleged Chittilappilly, and demanded a probe into the ‘irresponsible’ procedures initiated by the DGP to end the stray dog menace.
“His decision to register case against those who kill stray dogs is highly objectionable. The Aluva Rural SP interfered in the affairs of the Stray Dog Free Movement, and arrested the activists without any reason. We request the authorities concerned to suspend the Aluva Rural SP,” he added.
Various social workers, including office-bearers of the Social Justice Forum, Theruvoram Murukan, Prasanth Cherayi and Makaaram Mathayi have extended support to Chittilappilly.
Meanwhile, the Stray Dog Free Movement requested the public to vote only for candidates who assured that the street dog issue would be resolved completely. It also demanded steps to identify and take action against the group that propagated the ‘Boycott Kerala Tourism’ message.
