'No Proof on Plot to Kill Parameswaran, Alavi'

The Crime Branch submitted that since the allegations are grave in nature, a comprehensive and discrete inquiry is required and it sought six more months to complete the probe.

KOCHI: The Crime Branch Hurt and Homicide wing, Ernakulam, on Monday submitted before the Kerala High Court that no evidence could be obtained so far to substantiate the allegations in a case related to alleged conspiracy to kill Bharatiya Vichar Kendra director and senior RSS activist P Parameswaran and a Christian priest Alavi.

The Crime Branch made the submission on a  petition filed by T G Mohandas of Kochi  seeking a CBI probe in a case against PDP leader Abdul Nasar Madhani, who is allegedly involved in conspiring to kill Parameswaran and Alavi. The Crime Branch submitted that since the allegations are grave in nature, a comprehensive and discrete inquiry is required and it sought six more months to complete the probe. “For further investigation of the case, the copies of the statement of A V George IPS given before the Maradu Judicial Inquiry Commission and the statement of Muhammed alias Kadala Muhammed are to be obtained. A request has been submitted before the home department for the documents,”the Crime Branch submitted. The CB pointed out that A V George had deposed before the Commission that when A T Muhammed Ashraf was arrested in connection with Marad case, he had confessed that he was an active member of Peoples Democratic Party. Ashraf, who is also the second accused in the murder attempt case, revealed that Madhani had sent him for ISI traning in Pakistan via Sri Lanka and Bangkok. But he was sent back by the Immigration authorities of Bangkok Airport on finding that the passport was forged. Ashraf had further confessed that he along with Madhani criminally conspired to murder Parameswaran and Alavi.

According to CB,  Parameswaran and Alavi had stated that they had never faced any attempt on their life as alleged in the complaint by Mohandas. The petitioner submitted that even after two years, the investigation had not made any progress. There was no bona fide effort to investigate the conspiracy. As the accused had political clout, it was very difficult for the police officer to conduct a free and fair investigation, he submitted.
