Kerala Cartoon Academy Conducts ‘Star Cartoonist’ Contest

KOCHI: Kerala Cartoon Academy and Toonz Academy, Technopark organised a cartoon talent hunt ‘Star Cartoonist’  at Bharath Tourist Home here on Monday. Thirty young cartoonists who were shortlisted from hundreds of entries participated in the workshop and the final live competition  followed. Competition was held in memoriam to the late President  Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.

The programme was inaugurated by M Narayanan, executive director, Toonz Academy, in presence of cartoonist Prasannan, chairman, KCA, cartoonist Sudheer, secretary, KCA, Ajith Kumar C, centre head, Toonz Academy and Vinod A S, vice president Toonz Academy.

“A cartoon should be the creation and the imagination should be precise, concise and brief. Wit is the soul of a cartoon and a cartoonist should be capable of creating a sense of astonishment through his satirical way of presentation,” said the renowned cartoonist P V Krishnan. He also spoke on cartooning through practical lessons, illustrating ideas like ‘Parallel Perspective’ and ‘Angular Perspective’. Famous caricaturist Rathish Ravi’s live caricature of one of the organisers attracted the attention of the contestants. The winner of the competition will be awarded the title of ‘Star Cartoonist’ at the function to be held in Thiruvananthapuram in February second week.
