'Crayons' Spreads Colour and Cheer to Foster Home Inmates

Themed ‘Dream to be the next wonder’, the fourth edition of ‘Crayons’ was marked by events such as treasure hunt, drawing, solo dance, fusion dance and jigsaw puzzle where children showcased their talents and enjoyed themselves as well

To spread cheer among the children from over 25 foster homes in and around Kochi is no small task and worth all the time and effort. Rajagiri Transcend, the social arm of the management students of Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies (RCBS), accomplished it by organising 'Crayons' 16', a platform for children to compete.

Themed  'Dream to be the next wonder', the fourth edition  of 'Crayons' was marked by events such as treasure hunt, drawing, solo dance, fusion dance and jigsaw puzzle  where the inmates showcased their talents and enjoyed themselves as well.

"More than a competition, Crayons'16 was a platform for 500 children to meet and befriend. It was a colourful day and  the events were well organised," said E R Vijayan, project manager, Mahar Snehabhavan, which bagged the overall trophy for the second time. The event witnessed the inherent talent of little masters surface.

The children shared a day of fun and frolic and were happy that they got a platform to compete. "The way they treated us made us realise their love and kindness. When they served us food they asked us to help ourselves to more that in itself was a big treat.

They gave us a kit comprising notebooks and a pouch; things others may not find as precious, but definitely precious to us," said Merly Mathew,  a student of Sree Sankara College, Kalady, and an inmate of Chengal Balamandiram.

Sr Suguna from Chengal Balamandiram said, "even though everyone couldn't take part in the event, those who could were very happy to do so."

"Such events should be conducted more often as the children are eager to participate. When we were returning the children were enquiring about  the next 'Crayons', which might be held next year," said Mersad P K, secretary, Disha Charities.
