Sajitha Madathil is a many dynamic personalities rolled into one. She’s a writer, academician, theatre-artist, television personality, film actor and culture administrator. She has dedicated years to archiving traditional art and serves as the deputy secretary for Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, where she heads teams working on folk and tribal arts. She has also worked as the Deputy Director of the Kerala Chalachithra Academy and served as a documentary producer at Kairali TV. Her performance in Joy Mathew’s feature film Shutter (2012) won her the State film award for best second actress. She was initiated into theatre through the street plays like Kala Jatha of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP) and performed for various women’s groups in Kerala. She has been active in the Malayalam theatre for more than a decade. Sajitha is one of the founders of Abhinethri, the first women’s theatre group in Kerala, formed to explore the potential and possibilities of women’s expressions. She authored the play Matsyagandhi, which has been adopted in the curriculum by several Universities in Kerala.
