KOCHI: As the second phase of the district administration’s ambitious drought mitigation programme-- under which 100 ponds will be revived in 50 days-- drew to a close on Monday, a total of 18 ponds had been cleaned up.
District Collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla visited the site of the cleaning drive.
Ayankulam in Amballoor panchayat was the final one to be cleaned up on Monday, the concluding day of the second phase. It was revived with the help of Amballoor Mandakini club.
The clean-up operations took place under the direct supervision of ADM C A Prakash.
The mission undertaken as part of the state government’s Haritha Keralam programme has the backing of the Cochin Shipyard Ltd(CSL).
Ponds were revived at Chendamangalam, Kadungalloor, Kottuvally, Nedumbassery, North Paravoor and Parakkadavu on Sunday.
The youth from the local clubs, school and college students, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, Kudumbashree units, social activists and daily wage labourers are assisting the district administration.
