Corporation offered Rs 1 crore for maintenance of Subhash Park

Bringing cheer to kids and parents alike, the Subhash Bose Park in the city is set to sport a spic-and-span look round the year.

KOCHI: Bringing cheer to kids and parents alike, the Subhash Bose Park in the city is set to sport a spic-and-span look round the year.

In a major fillip to the Kochi Corporation’s efforts to keep the park up to snuff, a city-based financial firm has offered `1 crore for the upkeep of the park. The amount for the maintenance of the 11.5-acre park has been allotted from the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund.

“At present, we spend a huge amount for maintaining garden, ensuring security and electrical works of the park. The company has offered the amount as part of its CSR activity. High standards need to be ensured for park maintenance. The company will also put up a small advertisement without affecting the park’s beauty,” said Mayor Soumini Jain.

The Mayor said the Corporation had agreed to the proposal put forth by the private firm. “The move will ensure proper maintenance of the park,” the Mayor said.

In 2015, the then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had opened the Subhash Park for the public after carrying out renovation works to the tune of `4.5 crore. Landscaping, musical walkways, meeting area, new lighting system, garden, replacement of electric posts and ornamental lighting were the major attractions of the renovated park.

“The park committee held last week had decided to invite tender for park maintenance. We have included additional clauses for inviting the tender and as per this, the bidder should have experience in maintaining such huge parks. This is to ensure proper maintenance of the park,” the Mayor said.

The supervision of the park will be vested with the park committee headed by the Mayor, she said.
