KOCHI: For the past 25 years they have been in the field of music. They are Pranavam Sankaran Namboothiri, whose area of interest is Carnatic Music, Kottackal Madhu, who is into Kathakali Sangeetham and Ganesh Sundaram, who sings film and light music.
But it is not until now that they have decided to work together as a band. Ganesh is all set to launch ‘Trio’. While the conventional band deals with one genre of music, Trio is dealing with three, as the name suggests.
The band has the tagline, ‘Transcending time and tide’. “This is a first of its kind. The idea was suggested by a musician, Chandramohan, while performing for an annual-day function of a resident association. The ambience was good and the listeners loved it. Thus, we decided to take this forward,” says Ganesh. Minimal instruments will be used for each genre: mridangam, chenda, ghatam, violin, flute, keyboard and tabla.
They have already done two shows. “The flow of people to the event was amazing,” says Ganesh. “People came from Kottayam and Ettumanur to listen to us at Kochi. Everyone complimented us.”
The major problem for the band is that all three are very busy with their individual projects. “This means we have less time for practice,” says Ganesh.
As for their future plans, Trio wants to start a channel on Youtube so that they could air the songs that they perform.
