KOCHI: The Kochi Bypass Beautification Society, which undertook the Edappally-Vyttila Bypass beautification project, said it won’t be working on the project from March 1.
The society backed out of the project after civic authorities failed to help it to carry out maintenance of the garden unhindered.
Secretary of the society M E Mohamed said they had approached the civic authorities to iron out certain issues regarding the project. But our staff is still being harassed by the police. Even after the civic body directed the police to removal barricades and flexes of political parties and commercial establishments, nothing has been done. Hence, the society has decided to back out of the project from March 1, he said.
According to a release issued by the Mayor on 31, January, Kochi Municipal Corporation had convened a meeting with the representatives of the Police Department on January 30 and asked directed them to remove the temporary barricades put up in the area within six working days. The corporation had also assured that they will convene a meeting of the district level office bearers of the prominent political parties in this region and all issues pertaining to this project will be sorted out.
“But, the authorities failed to keep their promises and we are now forced to stop the project,” the society said.
