KOCHI: A court here has sentenced a 'new generation' film scriptwriter to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for trying to molest a young woman claiming he was just following 'a message from god'.

The Ernakulam Additional District and Sessions Court (for trial of cases relating to atrocities and sexual violence against women and children) sentenced Hashir Mohammed to serve three and a half years prison time and also ordered to pay Rs 40,000 as fine. However, his jail time will be reduced two years if he concurrently serves the sentence. Hashir was given this consideration as he had a clean record prior to this crime and he also claims to to be the only support for his aged parents.

The alleged incident took place on February 28, 2014, when Hashir who was residing in a rented flat at Maradu tried to abuse the woman next door.

On the day of the incident, Hashir residing on the sixth floor, came out dishevelled and went on to misbehave with the woman, who was going to her sister's house on the fourth floor. She was rescued by residents of the apartment complex who tied Hashir in the parking base and later handed him over to the police.

During the interrogation, the 30-year-old reportedly said that he was only following 'God's' message. He said he had received a message from the 'Almighty' to commit seven deadly sins. Rape was considered as one of the seven sins and hence he attempted it.

Prior to the incident, Hashir was riding high on success having worked as a scriptwriter for two hit movies in 2013, Fahad Fazil starrer Anchu Sundharikal and Dulquer Salmaan starrer Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi.

Before joining the film industry, the Malappuram native had worked with some of the leading IT companies in India and abroad.
