KOCHI: Downpours in and around the city are likely to continue for the next two days, according to a meteorology expert at the Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research at Cusat. "The monsoon from the Arabia Sea is now blowing towards Kochi at a height of 1.5 km. Its average speed is 40-45  km per hour. The wind was over south Kerala earlier and there was a good shower at the state capital. Now the wind is moving north.Analysis of forecast data shows the wind will continue to blow for the next two days causing moderate rain in and around Kochi.

Then, the wind will travel to north Kerala causing rain in Thrissur, Kozhikode and then move northward," said research scientist Manoj M G.However, heavy rain is unlikely in Kochi. Rain is considered to be heavy if there is a downpour of 7 cm.  In a city like Kochi, rain below 7 cm could cause waterlogging. If there were a proper drainage system, even heavy rain would not cause waterlogging. But in the absence of proper drainage, the impact of even a moderate downpour can be of a heavy rain. The common man considers rain as heavy or moderate on the basis of the impact it has, such as waterlogging or drainage overflow, said Manoj.
