E-Jagratha scheme phase IV rollout on Thursday

According to the district administration, around 12,577 students will be trained under the e-Jagratha scheme.

KOCHI: Buoyed by the success of its earlier three editions,  phase IV of the e-Jagratha scheme - launched by the district administration to digitally empower school students and prevent them from falling prey to the pitfalls on the Internet - will get underway here on Thursday. DGP Loknath Behera will inaugurate the programme at the TCS’ Infopark campus. In the latest phase, 101 schools under the Ernakulam, Aluva, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam educational divisions will stand to gain, with students of Class VIII, IX and X getting the chance to associate themselves with the project.

According to the district administration, around 12,577 students will be trained under the e-Jagratha scheme. “ Of the total 12,577 students being imparted training,  3,843 students are new to the programme. While 303 students will be trained by the TCS, the remaining 12,274  will get direct knowledge-sharing in their respective schools. The initiative aims at establishing basic IT infrastructure and Internet connectivity in schools and empowering students on the use of the Internet. In a scenario where you can’t survive without computers and the Internet, the training provided under the e-Jagratha will be a major boost to them,” said District Collector K Mohammed Y Safeerulla.

According to the Collector, setting up smart classrooms in government and aided schools with the objective of improving the quality of education is also part of the project. “Apart from providing basic training in cloud computing, android development, ethical hacking, Internet payment methods and robotics, the fourth phase will also focus on blogging session. By September-end, the school-based internal training will be started,” he said.
