KOCHI: Tiny tots of Govt Girls’ LP School Ernakulam (South Junction) will come together to fulfil a part of Abhimanyu’s dream of bettering the educational prospects of the children of Vattavada.

A box full of around 100 books will be making its way to the library being set up in memory of the slain student in his village. The books will be handed over at a function to be held at the school on the next working day.

“It is a  known fact whatever people learn in their childhood shapes their personality. This was true in the case of Abhimanyu,” said headmistress Leelamma Isaac.

According to her, Abhimanyu’s maturity belied his age. “His vision and dreams pinpoint to the fact books played an important role in moulding him. How many 20-year-olds have you seen striving to better the lives of those living around them?” she asked. So, it becomes our responsibility to bring alive his vision, she said.

“When we came to know about the library being set up at Vattavada, we decided to do our bit. The parents of a Class II student are sponsoring the books,” she said. The collection has books in Malayalam, English and Tamil.

“It’s a balanced collection. There are books on fiction, fairy tales, world classics and general knowledge. The Disney collection and illustrated classics besides National Geographic and animal world series will surely be loved by the children of Vattavada,” she said.

“Abhimanyu is not there with us, but we can keep his memories alive by working together to fulfil his dreams - both big and small,” she said.“The Abhimanyu Maharajas Library will be funded by the CPM and books are being donated by DYFI and DC among others. We will be sending our collection as a gift with a note on the box sporting the message ‘To our friends in Vattavada, with love’,” she said. The books cost around `5,000. The councillor of Vattavada K P V Krishnakumar will also participate in the function.
