Day one: Tribute to a legend

The 11th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, which commenced on Friday will screen 206 short films and documentaries over five days.

KOCHI: The 11th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, which commenced on Friday, features a package of films curated by renowned film critic C S Venkiteswaran, under the category titled ‘Cinephilia: An Eye On Cinema’.

The category in memory of P K Nair, the founder of the National Film Archives of India, features six films handpicked for movie-buffs. ‘Las Cinephilas’ by Maria Alvarez, ‘16mm: Memories, Movement And A Machine’ by K R Manoj, ‘Henri Lanlois: The Phantom of Cinematheque’ by Jacques Richard, ‘I Am Micro’ by Shumona Goel and Shai Heredia, ‘Pervert’s Guide To Cinema’ by Sophie Fiennes, and ‘Rangabhoomi’ by Kamal Swaroop are the chosen works.A group of retired women who go to movies every day – ‘Las Cinephilas’ is an enchanting tale of love for cinema.

‘16mm: Memories, Movement And A Machine’ traces back the history of the film society movement in Kerala. ‘Henri Lanlois: The Phantom of Cinematheque’ explores the life of Henri Langlois, the first film archivist. ‘I Am Micro’ is an experimental essay, and ‘Rangabhoomi’ brings to screens the contours of Dada Saheb Phalke’s life.
