High quantity of LSD hitting Kochi with frequent seizures being reported in recent times

KOCHI: It seems a large quantity of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) stamps and drops are hitting Kochi as for the second time the police could recover a huge quantity of such drugs from Kochi City in last two weeks time period.

Shadow Police on Thursday busted a major drug supplying racket by arresting its two members and seized Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) stamps and Hashish from them.

The arrested were Nishad 25 of Kollam and Naushad 25 of Aluva. According to police, the accused persons were members of a gang that was bringing drugs and narcotic products in bulk from other parts of the country. The police have recovered 60 LSD stamps worth Rs 1.8 lakhs and hashish worth Rs 25,000 while accused persons arrived at Vytilla Mobility Hub.

"This seizure of LSD was one of the largest in terms of quantity and quality in the district. The seized belong to ‘Void’ category which is high quality and cost a high price. The accused person targeted young men and women under age of 25. We have been monitoring the gang after receiving a tip-off that high quantity of LSD stamps are arriving in Kochi," a police officer said.

Police have started steps to track down a Perumbavoor native who is suspected to be the kingpin of the racket. "The arrested persons have confessed that a person identified as Jabreel of Perumbavoor is supplying them LSD. Jabreel is suspected to be a student in Chennai. He takes order for LSD stamps through online and supplies it through courier services

The LSD seizures have become rampant in recent times as Shadow police had seized LSD drops from a person at Ernakulam South Railway station last week. A few years back, LSD seizures were rare in Kochi. "But there is a high demand for LSD among the peddlers in Kochi now. In general, the drug seizures have become more frequent now," an officer said.

The data with police reveals that drug seizure case registered under has increased two-fold compared to a number of seizures in last four years. This year on an average around 56 NDPS cases is registered in Kochi City Police alone every month.
