PATHANAMTHITTA: Writer Prabha Varma has alleged the  involvement of foreign agencies  behind the Chengara agitation.

Inaugurating the cultural meet organised by the Anti-encroachment action council at Kumbazha near here on Monday,  Prabha Varma said that false and misleading propaganda on Chengara agitation in a US-based website is clear evidence in this regard. The website is spreading disinformation on Chengara agitation stating that there was firing against Chengara agitators. Wrong and baseless information were being spread by vested interests on the agitation, Prabha Varma said.

Prabha Varma said that Chengara land agitation leader Laha Gopalan was adopting double standards by demanding five acres for each agitating family in one platform and asking at other platforms for only a small piece of land for the agitators. Laha Gopalan was acting as a broker for colonial powers, Prabha Varma said.

Varma said that persons who always travel by planes do not know the problems of the common people. Persons like Arundhati Roy should first learn social problems of the state and the history of communities who faced discrimination and untouchability.

K T  Kunhikannan delivered the keynote address. P S Sasi presided over the function.A Gokulendran, Konniyur Radhakrishnan, K C Rajagopalan, MLA, M V Vidhyadharan, P K Gopi and Malayalppuzha Mohan spoke.
