THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Institute of Languages has announced the awards for 2009.

The awards were announced by Cultural Affairs Minister M A Baby here on Tuesday.

The awards are as follows: N V Krishnawarrier award for knowledge-based literature: Ezhumattoor Rajaraja Varma for his book ‘Bhashayum Bharana Bhashayum.’

Vaikom Mohammed Basheer award for novel/anthology of short story: P K Parakadavu for his book ‘Aval Peyunnu’.

K M George Award for literary criticism and research: S Saradakutty for her book ‘Pennvinimayangal’.

M P Kumaran award for translation: K Ajeer Kutty for his book ‘Mahmoud Darwishinte Kavithakkal.’

The awards for writers under the age of 40 are: N V Krishna Warrier award for knowledge-based literature: Pradeepan Pambirikunnu for his book ‘Ekajeevithanaswaraganam.’

Vaikom Mohammed Basheer award for novel/anthology of short story: Shajikumar P V for his book ‘Udumbu’.

K M George Award for literary criticism and research: Ajai P Mangad for his book ‘Sinkidi Munkan:Bhakthiyudde Narmarasam’.

M P Kumaran award for translation: Shiju Elias for the translationP: National Culture by Frantz Fanon.

The awards were decided by a jury comprising Perumbadavam Sreedharan, Ashokan Mundon and K E N Kunhammed.
