THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A city-based landscape developer has come up with a unique idea for developing parks without utilising public money.
The formula put forward by the Perfect Agri-Management Corporation to develop parks is simple; government or local self-government institutions have to entrust the renovation work of the public parks with the firm, which would find sponsors to fund the project.
The maintenance of the parks also will be entrusted with the sponsors. The parks developed according to this concept include the Golf Links Island Park, Kowdiar Park, Sreekanteswaram Park and Poojappura Park, all under the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
Perfect Agri-Management Corporation chief executive B.R. Sreekumar told Expresso that the parks are designed after considering the peculiarities of the land. One of the important considerations is providing greenery for ensuring the availability of oxygen. The firm has developed a slogan ‘green makers’ for the purpose. In fact, it has trade-marked the slogan.
Sreekumar said that one of the most ambitious projects being undertaken by his firm was the development of the Alappuzha canals. This is a project of the Tourism Department. Both sides of the canal will be developed at a width of 15 m and a length of 7.5 km. The work will begin after Onam, he said.
He also said that as much as 75 percent of the work on the rooftop garden and bar at Nedumbassery airport with an area of 1,000 square feet had been completed.
The firm, started in a small way in 1992 as a pest control service, ventured into the landscaping sector in 1998.
Another concept put forward by the firm is a landscaping studio.
