THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Chalachitra Academy organised a ‘Press Mentorship Programme’ for media students from all over Kerala ahead of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), which will open in the city on Friday.
The mentorship programme focused chiefly on the role of media in cinema.
“The programme mainly dealt with film writing, criticism and promotion of films. Classes were led by famous personalities from the industry,’’ said Dr G.R. Santhosh, the camp director.
Experts led the students through a variety of topics involving cinema and its interaction with other fields. The programme, which began on Saturday at Kesari Memorial Hall, was inaugurated by Communist ideologue P. Govinda Pillai.
Chalachitra Academy vice-chairman V.K. Joseph led the first session on the topic ‘Film, culture and politics’ on Saturday, followed by journalist C. Gowridasan Nair on ‘Journalism and Films’. Scriptwriter Anil Kumar spoke on scripting and film structure.
The final day of the programme started with a session by journalist M.G. Radhakrishnan, who spoke about how journalists should interpret the inner meanings and sub-plots in a movie. P.K. Rajasekharan spoke on the ‘Post-modern trends in films.’
The programme featured an interactive session, film screenings and exercises based on film writing.
Thirty seven students from across Kerala were selected for the training based on their resume and a short write-up on a given film, the organisers said.
“The programme was a very good experience for us. We got the opportunity to interact with experienced people from the industry and understand the various aspects about film writing and criticism,’’ said Shamsudeen, a media student from Kannur who took part in the programme.
