KOLLAM: Noted Kathakali artiste Chavara Parukutty has been selected for the fourth Kalamandalam Hyderali memorial Kathakali award instituted by the Vendar Sree Subramania Swami temple advisory committee. Addressing a news conference, advisory committee president Jagadeesh Thulasi and secretary B. Radhakrishna Pillai said the award comprising a cash prize of Rs 5001, memento and citation would be presented at a function to be held on the temple premises on February 7 evening. Kalamandalam principal Kalamandalam Rajasekharan will be honoured at the function. In the previous years, Kalamandalam Sankaran Embranthiri, Oyur Kochugovindapillai and Varanasi Vishnu Namboodiri were selected for the Hyderali memorial awards. Pranavam Sankaran Namboodiri’s sangeetha sadas, Kalamandalam Shylaja’s `Nangiarkooth’ and Poonjar Nrithabhavan’s drama will be held on February 7. On Thaipooyam day on February 8, kavadi ghoshayathra, a procession of the golden kavadi and major-set kathakali will be held.
